Clearlooks-Phenix (which used to be called Clearwaita) is a cool GNOME theme. Its main goal? To bring the GTK3 version of Clearlooks, which was the default theme for GNOME 2. Plus, it comes with files for GTK2 and works with Metacity, Openbox, and Xfwm4 window managers.
So, what’s GNOME all about? It’s this global effort to build a complete desktop environment. Basically, it’s the graphical user interface (GUI) that sits on top of your computer's operating system. And guess what? It’s all made from free software! This means they want to create software development tools, pick out the best apps for your desktop, and manage things like launching programs and handling files.
GNOME is part of something bigger called the GNU Project. It's super versatile since you can use it on different Unix-like operating systems. The most popular one? Linux! You can even find it in the Java Desktop System if you're using Solaris.
The name originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, but that's not used anymore. What really matters is that the GNOME project focuses heavily on making things simple and easy to use. They want everything to just work without a hitch!
