ConvertAll Portable

Calculations cannot be accurate if units don’t match. If you are studying science, engineering, or work in such technical fields, you are probably googling for unit conversions often.

ConvertAll Portable delivers an offline alternative, a unit converter that comes with support for a plethora of unit types. The array of supported unit types is broad enough that you might not need to search for any other unit converter.

The main window bundles a few fill-in boxes where you can select the source and the destination units. The list below sorts all the entries in alphabetical order by unit type. You can either type in the base units for conversion or select them each from the list. Evidently, it is impossible to convert units of different types.   One of the strong points of ConvertAll Portable is the ability to combine units using the * and / operators or raise them to power with the ^ operator.   This means that you can use it to convert, for instance, square or cubic meters (or inches), speed units, such as m/s (meters per second) or fuel consumption units (liters per 100km).

Once you select the units to convert, the value fields are no longer grayed out, and you can customize them.

ConvertAll Portable also comes with a built-in base converter, which allows you to convert between decimal, hex, octal or binary bases. Moreover, it also bundles a fraction conversion tool, allowing you to quickly calculate fractions and see their decimal value.

Additional settings allow you to customize the way the results are displayed: short, fixed, scientific or engineering are the four available modes. The number of decimal places and saved recent units are also customizable.

ConvertAll Portable does not require installation and comes with a user-friendly, simple GUI, allowing you to easily convert between units of various types. I found it to be easy to use and smartly built, since it filters the target units once the source unit is selected.

A desktop shortcut to ConvertAll Portable might save you the time needed to open the browser and search for unit conversions, especially if you are carrying out more complex calculations working on your science projects.
