One of the biggest societal issues of the 21st century that is subjected to various controversies on a global scale remains the Covid pandemic, due to its airborne spreading pattern alongside the difficulty of avoiding it in metropolises and when using public transportation. While many countries have essentially lifted most restrictions, the rate of infection is still ongoing and can be monitored via an aptly named CoronaVirusPandemic app.

After multiple vaccination campaigns, the risk of developing life-threatening symptoms is greatly reduced. That being said, it is still worth putting safety measures into action to avoid contracting and spreading the virus as much as possible.

By following Microsoft’s latest iteration of the Fluent Design language, the app lets users seek the details pertaining to the country of their choice through the search box built into the title bar for retrieving each state’s number of infected and fatal cases. Moreover, one can also take snapshots at very specific moments in time by leveraging the flexibility provided by the refresh option.

While the app does its job relatively well in its current form, users should take note of some shortcomings they may encounter when exploring the available functions. For instance, being able to copy the contents of a row or particular column could spare users from using third-party text recognition tools or manually inserting the data into their reports.

Having the option to sort each column’s values from highest to lowest may also come in handy for those seeking to make comparisons between multiple nations’ pandemic response. Finally, despite the constantly updated data, certain metrics seem to be missing from certain countries’ recovered, active or critical categories, meaning the numbers should be used for estimates, rather than precise measurements.

Those who wish to check the relative values of a country’s recorded cases and compare them to the number of recovered individuals may be well served by CoronaVirusPandemic, as long as the app’s defects are not grave enough to hamper the development of in-depth research studies.
