Desktop Multiplier is a cool software add-on that lets your dual-head Linux PC support two independent users. Imagine having two people working on the same computer at the same time – that’s what this software does!
This software is a set of standard Linux packages that expands the X Window System. It allows up to 10 fully independent and concurrent workstations and users on a single computer. Pretty neat, right?
You can easily set this up by adding video cards, USB keyboards, and mice to just one standard computer. Desktop Multiplier works with all single and dual-headed video cards supported by X.Org/XFree86. It’s been tested on most major Linux distributions using the 2.6 kernel (check out the /supported systems/ for more info).
The software comes as a single zip file that contains either an .RPM or .DEB package, making it compatible with various Linux distributions.
This package includes the Userful Multi-Station X-Server, which supports multiple local users at once.
Desktop Multiplier's DualView feature lets each workstation support up to five users! Each user gets their own desktop across two monitors. You can set this up during installation, but remember: both monitors must be connected to the same video card to use DualView.
