Description

dhcpcd

dhcpcd is a cool open-source tool that helps your computer grab an IP address and other important info from a DHCP server. It’s super portable and free to use! This command-line utility follows all the necessary standards like RFC2131, RFC2132, and RFC1541.

Key Features of dhcpcd

This nifty program has some great features. It supports DHCP over FireWire, allows user class support, domain search support, IPv4LL support, and even ZeroConf or APIPA support. Plus, it can handle node-specific client identifiers and classless static routes!

Advanced Capabilities

But wait, there’s more! The software also supports DHCP over InfiniBand. It includes various TimeZone options and can work with IPv6 router solicitation and SixRD. You can configure DNS settings easily too with its IPv6 router advertisement options.

Simplicity at Its Best

The beauty of dhcpcd lies in its simplicity. It quickly grabs an IP address and sets up the network interface for you. If you ever need help, just type ‘dhcpcd --help’ in your terminal to see all the options available!

Customization Options

You can also customize how dhcpcd works by specifying scripts, custom configuration files, or choosing which network interface to enable. There are settings for timeout seconds, lease time seconds, client IDs as well as whitelisting or blacklisting addresses.

Easy Installation Process

If you're using Linux, you'll be happy to know that dhcpcd is available in many software repositories. But if you want to go straight from the source tarball for free, check it out on Softpedia.

How to Install dhcpcd?

You just need to download the bzipped archive (tar.bz2) file from Softpedia. Save it on your PC and extract it using your default archive manager. Open your favorite terminal emulator and navigate to where you saved those files (like cd /home/softpedia/dhcpcd-6.6.4).

Compiling dhcpcd

To get everything set up properly, run the ‘./configure && make’ command in your terminal followed by either ‘make install’ as root or ‘sudo make install’ as a privileged user command for a system-wide installation.
