Description

DICTC

DICTC is a cool tool that uses the Dictionary Server Protocol (DICT). This protocol helps you get dictionary definitions by letting a client connect to various natural language dictionary databases. Pretty handy, right?

What is the Dictionary Server Protocol?

The Dictionary Server Protocol, or DICT, is a TCP-based system that works on a simple query and response method. Basically, when you ask for a word's definition, it retrieves the info from multiple dictionaries all at once. It was created by the DICT Development Group and is detailed in RFC 2229.

Why Use DICT?

The main goal of this protocol is to give you more options than the old Webster protocol. With DICT, you can access tons of dictionaries while you're using it. So whether you're writing an essay or just curious about a word, it’s there for you!

How Does It Work?

You’ll find that both DICT servers and clients use TCP port 2628. It's pretty straightforward: just connect your client to the server using this port and start looking up definitions.

Try Out DICTC!

If you're ready to see how it works for yourself, download DICTC and give it a try! You might be surprised at how useful it can be.
