Disk Redactor

Disk Redactor is a simple-to-use program designed to help you wipe free space on your hard drive, in order to prevent file recovery.

This type of software is recommended when you don't want unauthorized users to get their hands on sensitive data that you have previously deleted through traditional methods, and not via shredding.

The interface of the application is based on a standard window where you can get started with the wiping process by specifying the target directory.

During this time, you can check out a progress bar, logging details, along with the total, available and free space.

Unfortunately, the 'Options' screen is unavailable in the demo version of Disk Redactor. Thus, you cannot erase information twice, check the disk for writing errors, make Disk Redactor run in the background, or to fill free space with random data.

The program runs on a low amount of system resources, in order to finish a task in reasonable time (depending on the size of the target location). But other applications clearly run slower in the background. It is very responsive to commands and didn't cause us any issues during our evaluation, such as freezing, crashing or popping up errors. First-time users can easily work with Disk Redactor's features, thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity.
