Docear is a cool, open-source app made in Java that helps you search, organize, and create academic stuff like assignments, theses, books, and research papers. It's perfect for students and researchers who want to keep everything tidy!
Unlike many office suites out there, Docear combines a bunch of tools just for researchers. It’s got an academic search engine, a file manager, PDF reader, mind mapping tool, note-taking features, a reference manager, and even paper drafting options. How awesome is that?
The best part? Most of these tools work together but can also be swapped out if you prefer using something else. For example, if the reference manager in Docear isn’t your favorite, feel free to use another one!
Docear comes with two standout features. First up is the ability to import PDF annotations like bookmarks and comments. This makes it super easy to organize the most important info from your documents.
If you need more details than what a bookmark shows you, no problem! Docear can open the PDF right where the bookmark points.
The second unique feature is how all your information gets laid out in a mind map. Organizing info this way is way better than just using lists or tags. You can see everything at once!
No worries about which computer you're using! Docear works on both Mac OS X and Windows systems. If you're on Windows, you can grab the binaries from the project’s homepage.
* Some features are not yet ready or might need third-party apps.
