OpenSubtitle is a cool open-source script made in Python. It adds a right-click menu option for your KDE desktop, letting you grab movie subtitles from opensubtitle.org super easily!
If you want to set up this script on your KDE desktop, it’s pretty simple. Just click the download link above and save the archive in your Home directory. Once you've got that, find the download_subtitle.py file in the download_opensubtitle folder and copy it to a place like ~/bin in your Home directory.
If you're using KDE3, you'll need to move the download_subtitle.desktop file into the ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus folder. For those on KDE4, just copy it over to ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus. Easy peasy!
Using OpenSubtitle is super straightforward! Just right-click on any video file, hover over Actions, and select Download Subtitle from the menu. A new window will pop up showing a list of available subtitles for you to pick from. Choose one that fits your movie best, and it’ll download automatically into the same folder as your video with the same name.
You might be curious about what goes on behind the scenes with OpenSubtitle. We know it's written in Python, but you'll also need Wget for downloading those subtitles and Kdialog for its user interface to make everything look nice.
