While not dangerous on its own, the “autorun.inf” file can be used by malware and different types of viruses to spread to other devices. In other words, this simple text file, used by the AutoRun and AutoPlay components of Windows, can become a gateway to viruses, allowing them to infect other machines or removable drives. Whether we are talking about local or flash drives, it is always a good idea to get additional protection for your devices. Drive Dot Shield is specifically created to help you protect flash drives from the "autorun.inf" file.
The application is easily installed and, after a while, it reveals its simple interface, which only comprises the list of detected drives on the local machine. It can detect NTFS, UDF and removable drives as well, revealing their label, name, type, filesystem type and status. Should a drive be already infected, you get a notification at this point.
While there is nothing you can do for infected drives, you can add an extra layer of protection to the others. Drive Dot Shield creates an "autorun.inf" folder on the drive root, making it impossible to delete.
Autorun.inf can infiltrate the system via the Web, third-party apps or other USB drives. However, with Drive Dot Shield installed and with protection activated for your drives, viruses cannot use the autorun file as a gate to infect your PC and other devices.
