duf

More often than not, advanced users rely on the df and du commands to find out how much free space is available on mounted file systems and estimate file space usage, respectively. duf is a lightweight command line utility designed to be an alternative to the df command and that provides other disk usage options that may come in handy.

For starters, the tool comes with a straightforward interface that displays a colorful output so that users can spot the information they need faster. In case they are using a specific terminal, then the app is designed to adjust the GUI size to the default terminal's width.

Users have the possibility to sort the results according to their needs and preferences. Alternatively, the results can be exported to JSON to be investigated with other third-party tools later on, action you can perform via the json command.

Similarly to the df command, the tool can display file system disk space usage, including here devices' names, total blocks included, total and used disk space as well as the mount points on a file system. The application adds to this data the pseudo, duplicate and inaccessible file system via the simple – all command.

Take note that the app displays all of the aforementioned information in a human readable format. What this means is that instead of the bytes information, you can preview the sizes and usages in sizes that are easy to understand and remember, such as megabytes and gigabytes, for instance.

The tool allows you to explore certain file systems and hide others, separated with commas. duf also allows you to sort out the string output based on various criteria, including, but not limited to mount point, size, used, available, usage, inodes, type or file system, just to name a few.
