If your job implies regularly extracting the information from images and screenshots, then you should consider working with an OCR tool. The time and effort you can save via a dedicated tool is not only worth it, but it will also reduce the errors you are likely to make in a document.
EasyOT is a lightweight application designed to help you grab and extract information from various images, including screenshots you take directly.
Following a quick and uneventful installation, you are welcomed by a simple interface that you can pop from the System Tray. As a side note, the default language for the first launch is Chinese, so many sure you can change it to English and save the configuration.
Functionality-wise, you can use the F4 key to activate the text recognition and select the desired area via your mouse. You will be able to view it directly in the app’s UI, where you can further process it. You have two ways to manage the text, either copy the text content or translate it, each of the options having their own dedicated field.
It is important to note that you may need to have accounts and generate working APIs for the services that the tool relies on for text recognition as well as translation. More precisely, the app supports Tencent Cloud, Baidu Cloud and Space OCR for recognition, and you need to include the various data, such as SecretID or ApiKey, for instance, to be able to use the services.
In case you want to grab text solely for translation, then you can do so via the F2 key. While F4 and F2 are default, bear in mind that you can change them according to your preferences. For translations, you can also work with Google Translate, which is free and supports dozens of languages.
Lastly, one of the standout features of EasyOT is its ability to capture text on multiple screens, while automatically adjusting for different DPI settings. However, it's important to keep in mind that the app will only capture the screen where the mouse cursor is located.
