There are various activities in which text processing is a mandatory activity. Windows already provides a couple of editors by default, but there are also an abundance of third-party alternatives which might be more suitable to your needs. For instance, EdWord wants to enhance word processing with speech.
You’re first taken through a setup process for the application to properly deploy all needed voice modules and set of functions. However, you need to make sure that .NET Framework is installed on your computer for the program to properly work, but it might already be there, because it usually comes in the default set of features with modern Windows iterations.
Editing wants to be personal, so the process first involves creating a user, but you can also log in with the default one. Adding a new entry merely requires a name, but there are various options to configure to make it suitable to your needs. The configuration screen lets you set the user level, which affects the permissions, as well as general font and grid settings.
Once logged in, you’re put up against a blank canvas on which you write all pieces of text. Unfortunately, the application doesn’t really come with support for any kind of known text file, which makes it devoid of import and export options. You can, however, save and load your work, but it needs to be entirely created here.
Apart from the rather poor text editing capabilities, the application also comes with text to speech features. It can be a little surprising, especially since it’s not just designed to read text. It can speak mostly anything under the cursor, including desktop elements, but there’s a high chance it doesn’t work for a great array of programs and instances.
All things considered, we can state that EdWord comes with a couple of features to make text editing work hand-in-hand with speech features, but it handles both components rather superficially, leaving much to be desired overall.
