Without a proper installation of an electrical system you wouldn't be able to use any device in your house. It takes a lot of knowledge to build a solid network of wires and components for a smooth flow of electrical current. To be on the safe side you can use specialized applications like Electrical Calculator to determine the type and amount of power your schematics need to have.
The application comes in a pretty light package and after a short download process you are free to take advantage of all its features. That's right, no installation is required so you can keep it on a removable storage device, while system registries remain intact.
You quickly get the hang of it thanks to the intuitive design. The main window lets you select areas of interest, such as ohm, power, series and parallel RLC, circuit, earthing system, lightning protection and more. Each is equipped with a set of dedicated fields where it's enough to write down values you use, because the application takes care of the rest.
A few minutes in and you realize that even beginners have a shot at managing data. This is because sections come equipped with thorough descriptions, schematics, as well as formulas through which calculus is done, much like what and how you learn in school.
Depending on the complexity of your task, various drop-down menus let you set up conditions and elements to use. All of them are cleverly organized and you can clearly differentiate input fields from default data. Calculus is done and displayed in real time.
You can use the application both for professional and personal needs. In case you know your way around, there's an integrated feature that gives you the possibility to estimate the cost of a complex project. This includes materials, handwork, price of production, as well as selling price, each with a custom number of entries, fields for price, quantity or transport cost.
When you got your hands on all details you need, these can easily be printed out on a sheet of paper. At the press of a button, a print preview window pops up and displays elements in the same layout as you edit them. This comes in handy because the default canvas is visually appealing, but it's rather poorly implemented in the preview, with links, suggestions and buttons as well. What's more, export is possible but only under TXT and not for all categories.
Bottom line is that Electrical Calculator lives up to expectations by wrapping a handful of calculators equipped with helpful descriptions in a highly-intuitive interface so anyone can take advantage of its features. Although there isn't an implemented feature to draw circuits, the set of features makes sure results are accurate and you understand how elements are placed.
