elEment is a small yet educative software solution that comes in handy to students of all ages and teachers alike to learn the periodic table of elements in an interactive way and read detailed info about each one.
The setup requires little effort and time from your side. The interface is self-explanatory and well-organized, with the elements neatly structured in categories (e.g. alkali metals, earth metals, halogens, noble gasses) and displayed with specific colors that correspond with the group they are part of.
Each element is shown in the periodic table based on its composition. The metals are situated in the middle based on their mass and atomic number, while the noble gasses are located on the right.
Clicking on an element brings up a separate window, where you can view the element's name, symbol, atomic number and mass, along with the first ionization energy, electron affinity and electronegativity.
ElEment shows the boiling and melting point values, period, group, family and electron configuration. For example, for Calcium, the atomic number is 20, atomic mass is 40.08, period is 4 and family is alkaline earth.
You can also learn more detailed information, such as second and third ionization energy, atomic and ionic radius, common oxidation state, characteristics, color, uses and sources. For example, the Calcium has a silvery-white color and can be used in lime or cement.
Plus, the tool also comes with a reactions tab, where you can review with what other components the current item has reactions with. Iron, for example, has reactions with air, chloride or oxide.
elEment comes with a few interesting facts about how each element can be of help in our daily lives. last but not least, you have the option to search for particular items based on symbol, name, boiling or melting point.
The bottom line is that elEment is a reliable and interactive application designed to be of help for both teachers and students to learn more about each component of the periodic table. You can also find specific elements based on their name or symbol.
