Information security has seen some rough days, but now is probably at its worst. Coders and hackers all depend on individual skill, and it’s probably just a matter of time for some important texts to get virtually stolen. In case you don’t want this to happen with your files, at least when dealing with other individuals using your computer, Encrypted Notes can help you out.
The application takes only a few seconds to get installed on your computer. It works only with plain text files, but the variety of security and key generating features let you overlook this inconvenience. You can start off by dragging a TXT file over the main window. On the other hand, there’s the possibility to load an entire directory for batch processing.
On the visual side of things, the application keeps elements simple, so you don’t feel overwhelmed, or lost along the way. Most of the space is the field where text is shown, and you can add more strings with the keyboard. Before encryption, you need to add a key as well, so the application can process the algorithm, and use it to decode.
A neat thing is you don’t have to write a new key every time, thanks to the built-in generator, which is also capable of saving the created item to file. Using it is a walk in the park, only requiring you to specify the kind of characters to use, as well as length of the key. Needless to say that you must keep this file safe, and preferably hidden, otherwise you can’t decrypt text.
By default, the application relies on the AES encryption algorithm to secure your text files. What’s more, you can switch to a Triple DES method. In case you just want to encrypt a message for one time use, a dedicated function allows you to simply paste in text, generate a key or add a new one, and copy the encrypted text to send to whoever needs to receive it.
To be fair, it’s close to impossible to have important files kept entirely safe, with all the danger lurking around the web. However, if you’re not part of some sort of secret society or government, you probably only need to be on the lookout for siblings or coworkers, case in which Encrypted Notes can get the job properly done.
