Featuring an interesting gameplay that enables you to control a space vessel in order to stop a ball’s fall off the playing field, Arkanoid is one of the most popular arcade games ever.

Despite its popularity, Arkanoid can become a little visually and mentally boring after a while when you just stare at a paddle, a ball and some bricks.

By adding a little salt and pepper over Arkanoid, you get Equilibrium 3D, a very interesting game that combines Arkanoid’s gameplay with a first-person shooter puzzle/platformer to create an engaging and “out-of-the-box” gaming experience.

The game starts off with you having to control a horizontally fixed paddle in order to stop the ball from escaping the playing field. The goal of the game is to destroy as many blocks as possible, just like in the case of Arkanoid.

This is where Equilibrium 3D separates itself from Arkanoid as once you hit certain blocks that can’t be destroyed by the ball, the game becomes a head-on FPS.

In FPS mode, things become much more interesting as you have to use your reflexes and free running abilities in order to explore the insides of the block and find the detonator.

To help you in your quest, you get a special plasma gun that enables you to spawn cubes, that, in turn, help you climb your way up towards the detonator.

Despite the fact that the game’s action revolves around the (apparently) easy process described above, the cool power-ups, the challenging levels, the old-school soundscape, and the neat graphics, all make up for an engaging and thrilling gaming experience that doesn’t disappoint.

Taking all of the above into consideration, by combining two interesting yet quite different game styles (FPS and Arkanoid style), you could say that Equilibrium 3D improves on both of them and manages to prove that there is a still a lot of room for evolution in the gaming industry, in both gameplay and game genre alike.
