If you know and use fail2ban, then you'll love EvlWatcher. This application is meant to protect your PC from any dangerous IP addresses that might be attempting to access your files. The main difference here is this app should technically work out of the box and not need any major adjusting. It works together with the Windows Event Log and tries to identify potentially dangerous IP addresses, after which, based on pre-set rules, it takes action against them.
Don't fool yourself. This application is a tool. As a result, there won't be any fancy bells or whistles attached to this program. While the interface is not reminiscent of older Windows operating systems, fitting quite well with the current OS generation, it is clear from the start that development was looking more towards offering the best possible services and not necessarily looks.
The first window will show three separate rows containing IP addresses that have either been temporarily banned, permanently banned, or white-listed. This makes it easy for the user to see what IPs are dangerous and if there are any patterns repeating themselves. The Live tab will show real-time discoveries and what the app is actually doing. The Rule Tester area is for more advanced users. The app lets you create certain rules and test them to make sure of their efficiency.
The idea behind this app, according to the developer, was to create a balanced program, one that allows basic users to manage any online threats instantly but also one that allows advanced users to configure and tailor it to their liking. It seems that this balance has indeed been reached, which is why EvlWatcher could actually be the protection you were looking for against Bruteforce attacks coming from the same IP addresses over and over again.
EvlWatcher is an application that seems to be tailored for both advanced and general users. It's got something for both and seems to satisfy both groups equally, without being too complicated in its exposure, but not too restrictive in the power it can grant the user.
