Every file that ends up on your computer has a unique code associated to it, sort of like a fingerprint. This code is called a hash, as I am sure you have heard it at least once and verifies a file’s integrity. In other words, two hash codes can be compared to determine whether a file has been tampered with or completely matches the original.
The online world does not lack checksum viewers, some online and some even integrated in Windows. However, there are also standalone third-party applications, such as File Hash Checker, that can read a file’s hash code and reveal it for comparison.
This particular application is as easy as it gets: installation is not required and, as soon as you double-click on the main executable, the classic browse window is open, allowing you to choose the file to analyze.
You can choose whatever type of file you like, as the application can read executables, images and other graphic files, multimedia files, documents, applications, and so on. File Hash Checker starts calculating its checksum data and displays three hash codes, namely MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 signatures.
With the click of a button, it is possible to copy both the file path and the hash codes to the clipboard and use it wherever you need to, maybe to compare the codes to those of another file.
Unfortunately, File Hash Checker does not provide support for comparing two hash codes and seeing whether they match or not, even though this is a common function amongst hash checkers.
As its name suggests, File Hash Checker is nothing more than a simple hash verifier, helping you extract the MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 signatures of any file on your computer. You can then copy the hash codes to the clipboard and use another software to compare codes or carry out this task manually.
