Fluid is a handy little app for Mac that lets you turn your favorite websites into desktop clients. This means you can keep them open without cluttering up your web browser or slowing it down. Cool, right?
Getting started with Fluid is super easy! Just launch the app, and in the main window, you'll need to enter the website URL you want to use. After that, set a name for it and choose where you want it saved. Want to customize it? You can pick an icon too—either the website’s favicon or an image from your files.
Once you've filled everything out, just hit the “Create” button in the bottom right corner. Now all you have to do is sit back and wait a bit. When it's done, Fluid will pop up a message telling you that everything worked out great! Plus, there are buttons for “Reveal in Finder” and “Launch Now” if you're excited to check it out.
The best part? The new Fluid apps show the website in a simple window that looks a lot like a web browser but without all the distractions. By default, toolbars are turned off to keep things clean, but if you need them, you can enable status updates, bookmarks, and navigation buttons whenever you want.
When you create a new desktop client using Fluid, it automatically makes a whitelist with the domain of your chosen website. If you try to open other pages outside that domain, it'll send you back to your regular browser—no mess!
If you'd like more freedom, head over to the Preferences window of your desktop client. There you'll find options under the Whitelist panel where you can add more entries or even allow browsing any URL at all!
Fluid is perfect if there are specific sites you're always visiting but don't want crammed into your browser tabs. It's also got support for Userscripts and Userstyles! This means you can tweak how everything looks and works based on what suits you best.
If you're ready to give Fluid a try and keep those favorite sites organized on your desktop, go ahead!
