Description
Fonty Python
Fonty Python is a cool project that helps you manage your fonts on Gnu/Linux. If you’re a designer like me, you know how tricky it can be to keep track of all those fonts in an organized way. This program lets you view and create easy-to-use collections of your favorite fonts!
Organize Your Fonts with Ease
With Fonty Python, you can add or remove fonts to something called a 'pog' (which comes from typography). Once you've set up your pog, installing it will link all those fonts right in your $HOME/.fonts directory. And when you're finished using them in other apps? Just remove the pog, and poof! All the links disappear too.
Perfect for Projects and Clients
This tool is fantastic for keeping everything neat and tidy based on each client or project you’re working on. Plus, it helps cut down on that annoying “font clutter” that can pop up in your font chooser.
A User-Friendly Mix of Command-Line and GUI
The best part? Fonty Python works as both a command-line tool and a graphical user interface (GUI). You can quickly install or remove pogs without needing to open the whole GUI every time—it’s super handy!
Latest Features in Version 0.2.0
The latest version, 0.2.0, has a complete user interface while still keeping all the command-line features we love. If you have any thoughts or run into bugs while using Fonty Python, I would love to hear from you! Your feedback helps improve the app.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you encounter issues during installation, make sure to check for specific files that Fonty Python needs to run smoothly.
Getting Started with Installation
I’m assuming you've already extracted the tarball that comes with it! Now just navigate to the directory it created. As the root user, enter this command:
python setup.py install
If you're using Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu or similar systems, type:
sudo python setup.py install
This will set up a program called 'fp'. Make sure to move the entire extracted folder into your PATH folder (like ~/bin). You’ll need to create a link to the fp script too:
tar -s ~/bin/fontypython-x.x.x/fp .
Then make it executable by entering:
chmod u+x fp
If everything goes well, you're ready to rock! If not, try restarting your console.
Your First Command!
To kick things off with Fonty Python, just type:
fp -h
