Free Bangla Fonts is a cool project that focuses on making high-quality, free Bengali fonts that are totally Unicode compliant. This project aims to be the go-to place for anyone looking to get or create Free Bangla fonts. The main goal is to roll out a full set of Bangla fonts that support all those tricky juktakhars, or conjuncts, in the language.

What We're All About

This project isn't just about creating new fonts; we also want to convert existing Free Bangla fonts that aren't Unicode compliant into nice, clean OpenType™ fonts. Plus, it's part of something bigger called the Ankur - Bangla initiative in GNU/Linux and the FLOSS community.

Key Features of Free Bangla Fonts

1. Unicode Compliance: We're committed to being 100% compliant with the Unicode 4.1.0 standard. We follow Microsoft OpenType™ specs closely, too! Our aim is to release a font that meets the juktakhar standards from both the Bangladesh and Pashchim Banga Bangla Academies.

2. Quality Glyphs: Quality matters! We focus on creating good-looking glyphs and have extensive OpenType™ tables that manage all the current Bangla juktakshars in use today.

3. Free Software Philosophy: Our policy? Only work on Free (or Open Source) fonts! That way, everyone can share what we create freely. Free Software is all about giving users power and rights over what they use.
