ft2-clone is a dedicated project to recreating the classic Fasttracker II software, originally designed for MS-DOS. It strives for accuracy by directly porting the XM player from the original source code.

Although the GUI is the same, the program incorporates modern enhancements to make it a compelling option for both nostalgic and modern users. One notable improvement is the Enhanced Channel Resampler/Mixer, which employs floating-point arithmetic for heightened accuracy and introduces advanced interpolation options like 4-point cubic spline and 8-point/16-point windowed-sinc.

Sample Support is expanded, offering compatibility with a broader range of formats including FLAC, AIFF, and various WAV types. The sample loader automatically adjusts sample tuning to match playback frequency on loading, ensuring optimal audio quality. The introduction of a "Trim" feature further optimizes memory usage by removing unused data from modules, potentially reducing module size and enhancing efficiency.

The project also introduces user-friendly enhancements such as Drag-and-Drop Functionality, allowing for easy organization and arrangement of music elements within the software. Other improvements include an Improved Sample Editor with peak-based waveform visualization, Text Box Enhancements for efficient text manipulation, and Expanded Module Support for loading complex module files with stereo samples, uneven channel counts, and more.

Despite the many improvements, it’s clear that the developer wanted to provide a faithful recreation of the Fasttracker II experience. Once you work with it for a little bit, you realize that it focuses on replicating the core functionality of Fasttracker II, including pattern-based music composition, sample editing, and module playback.

One of the standout features of ft2-clone is its XM Player, which is directly ported from the original Fasttracker II source code and adds an extra layer of authenticity.
