Gemini

Gemini is a simple-to-use program that allows you to convert PDF files to other file types, such as HTML and RTF. It can be handled by less experienced users.

The interface of the application is plain and easy to work with. Opening a PDF file can be done with either the file browser or 'drag and drop' method.

You can remap characters, zoom in and out, fit the width of the page, or view its actual size, toggle bookmarks, use a search function, as well as jump to a specific page.

Before exporting pages to other file types, you may specify the page range. You can export PDF articles, as well as export pages in batch mode (e.g. export article threads, create a new folder for each file).

From the 'Preferences' screen, you can pick the format for the text (e.g. HTML 4, plain text, simple HTML) and images (e.g. PNG, JPEG, TIFF), as well as customize settings regarding the text flow (e.g. identify image captions, preserve line breaks), text appearance (e.g. hyperlink, bookmarks, page breaks), images (e.g. scaling, color depth when rendering) and HTML (e.g. background color, header and footer, frames).

The program runs on a low-to-moderate amount of system resources, has a good response time and includes a user manual. We have not come across any problems during our testing; Gemini did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs. No recent updates have been made.
