The GenerativeCity game has been developed to run on the Unity engine and offers you the possibility to play having a first-person perspective.
The game’s “story” is rather unsophisticated: you find yourself in a randomly generated landscape, and your job is to explore the surroundings and find a red cube.
On each GenerativeCity map, your position, the red cube’s location, and the surrounding buildings are randomly generated. This means that the difficulty of each map is also completely random.
GenerativeCity does not use textures for the generated cities, which makes for an altogether interesting view. At the same time, since the landscape is white with grey tones for the shades, spotting the red cube is quite easy.
The game comes with fairly intuitive controls: the WASD combination or the arrow keys for moving, the mouse for looking around, and the Shift key for increasing the running speed or the jump momentum.
However, the game controls are not very accurate: you can manage to jump entire buildings with no effort while climbing on a ledge can be a lot more complicated.
If you get stuck, or do not think you are able to find or reach the red cube, just press the “N” key and GenerativeCity will create a new map.
Within the GenerativeCity game, if you play with your headset on, you will be able to hear the red cube humming, which makes it easier to find. If you want to increase the game’s difficulty level, switch to speakers, or mute the sound altogether.
This no-nonsense approach for the gameplay combined with the game’s aesthetics makes playing GenerativeCity a rather relaxing experience, even if the controls are not all that accurate.
