Writing can mean a lot of things, from keeping a simple journal, to programming, to earning a living. As such, you need a powerful application to meet all your demands for an efficient workflow. For a cool, distraction-free environment, GlassyWriter comes with just the means, as well as some customization options for more style.

The setup process is over before you realize, letting you take the application for a spin right afterwards. Although modern Windows iterations come with .NET Framework as a default feature, it’s a good idea to check whether or not it is on your PC, otherwise the program doesn’t function.

Your entire screen is covered with a transparent veil when the application is launched. It shows some default hotkey commands to operate general open and safe functions, as well as to cut, copy, and paste text. The entire screen becomes your canvas, and you can still clearly see all elements in the background.

There’s the possibility to set opacity level and even color for the background to create a distraction-free environment. Font can also be customized, but only in terms of color, because there’s no possibility to pick a different font style, attributes, or size. A custom picture can be used as a background instead of a plain color tone.

File support is rather a mystery, without any indications as what you can open and save. However, you can work with both RTF and TXT files to meet basic demands. Note that the application always stays on top of everything else, and closing it automatically discards all changes, so be careful not to accidentally exit.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that GlassyWriter is a lightweight application which can help you perform basic text operations. There are no advanced features, such as line, character, or word counting, but it can be used as a method of focusing on the task at hand by putting a veil over everything else.
