Glimmr

Brightness preferences vary from person to person. I don’t like things getting too bright, but I don’t like completely dimming my displays too much. Of course, picture luminance levels do also differ between displays — sometimes even among those of the same make. A middle ground must exist for all of us, but then again, you also have to adapt it to your environment, especially if you’re on a portable device.

The premise of Glimmr is that it can allow you to quickly modify the brightness levels of your monitors, regardless of whether you’re running a single or multi-display setup.

In order to provide users with the immediate access they need to tweak their brightness, the program is accessed via systray. The program affords you these controls in a relatively unintrusive way: when interacting with the program, the interface doesn’t occupy an excessive amount of screen space.

However, if you find the normal version to be too unwieldy for you, then you can freely switch to Compact mode for a reduced interface footprint — you can use the program’s functions all the same.

The default brightness mode is Custom, but there’s also one for working, reading, gaming, and watching films. Night Mode is likewise available, and it dims your screen quite dramatically.

As for other functions of the program, that’s about it for the Free version. You cannot configure any other mode other than Custom, and adjusting brightness globally is greyed out. Otherwise, you can expect the program to work just as you would expect.

If you often find yourself changing luminance levels, then Glimmr should come in useful. It is an easy, quick, and unintrusive way to modify the brightness of your monitors whenever you feel the need.
