GMail Reader is a handy little tool for your desktop that lets you know whenever a new email pops into your Gmail account. Setting it up is super easy!

Quick Setup and Easy Access

After a quick and straightforward setup, you’ll see a small window that you can drag around to any spot on your screen using your mouse. Want it to stay visible all the time? Just pair it with Windows' built-in feature that keeps this little frame on top of everything else. Plus, you can turn on sound notifications for incoming emails, so you won’t miss a thing.

Account Setup Made Simple

The first step is to go to the Options panel and enter your Gmail username and password. Just a heads up: it won't save these details, so you'll need to type them in each time you open GMail Reader. It’s a bit of an extra step, but not too much hassle.

Email Notifications at Your Fingertips

This gadget shows you a list of unread emails along with their titles and who sent them. If you click on an email, it opens right up in your default web browser, and once you read it, it clears from the list. However, keep in mind that there aren’t many other features in this tool. You can't manage multiple Gmail accounts or have more than one instance open at the same time—this is just how Vista gadgets work.

Performance and Reliability

The good news? GMail Reader hardly uses any system resources, which means it's light on performance while still providing great refresh rates (you can’t change how often it checks for new emails). Throughout our tests, we didn’t run into any crashes or freezes—everything just worked smoothly!

A Minor Drawback

While GMail Reader runs well on newer operating systems, there's one small downside: after setting up your account in the Options panel, sometimes the information doesn’t show up correctly.
