What is Gnome BitTorrent Downloader FOR LINUX?

Gnome BitTorrent Downloader

Gnome BitTorrent Downloader is a handy tool that doesn't try to be a full front-end application. Instead, it simply pops up when you want to open torrent files. Pretty straightforward, right?

Why Python?

Since the BitTorrent protocol is built using Python, I thought, "Why not stick with what I know?" So, I wrote this program in Python too! It makes things easier because I'm already comfortable with it.

Requirements for Gnome BitTorrent Downloader

Here’s what you need:

  • python-gtk2 (>= 2.10.0) and all its dependencies

  • python-gnome2 (>= 2.10.0) and all its dependencies

  • python-glade2 and all its dependencies

  • python (>= 2.4)

  • bittorrent (>= 3.2 and < 4.0), though >= 3.3 is recommended

What's New in This Release?

This update comes with some cool tweaks:

  • I wrapped the gobject.idle_add calls to make sure they always return False—this might fix that annoying issue where the program wouldn't close sometimes.

  • I cleaned up the prefix.py generation for better performance.

  • POTFILES.in has been updated so intltool-update can work again.

  • I added an "UPDATE" tag so I remember to check all version numbers next time!

  • The fmt_time_short now shows hours:minutes:seconds for clearer time display.

  • The GtkHigErrorDialog has been simplified into a lightweight wrapper around GtkMessageDialog, which means errdiag.glade has been removed.
