Gold Price

Gold Price is a small widget developed for the Yahoo! Widget Engine platform, that keeps users up-to-date with the latest gold price, as the name implies. It offers support for multiple currencies and an easy-going configuration experience.

The interface of the tool is based on a circular frame that resembles a golden coin; it can be set to a preferred theme (e.g. Australian quarter, Eagle half), by selecting an option from a drop-down menu in the Widget Preferences panel.

The frame automatically displays the current gold price in the chosen currency, whether we're talking about the Euro, Canadian dollar, pound sterling, Indian rupee, Yen, US dollar, Russian ruble, or others.

You can select the value display mode (e.g. grams per dollar, price per ounce), make the app check for updates on a regular basis, as well as trigger sound notifications when the price is above or below a user-defined value.

With the courtesy of the options supplied by Yahoo! Widget Engine by default, you can set the frame to stay on top or below all the other windows, to ignore mouse events and to prevent dragging. You can set its opacity level to a preset value, ranging from 20% to 100%.

Gold Price is quite forgiving concerning the CPU and memory levels, so it doesn't affect user activity. It has a good response time and delivers accurate results. The only downside to the tool is that you cannot specify the price refresh rate. Other than that, Gold Price should please all users who have a special interest in the gold price.
