Google Photos Backup is a handy tool made by Google to help you upload your pictures and videos to your online account. It can easily find images on your mobile device and even keep an eye on various folders on your Mac.
To kick things off, you'll need to log into your Google account. Once you're in, you can choose which folders and devices you want to back up in the cloud. Just a heads-up: it only uploads image and video files that are in supported formats.
A cool feature of Google Photos Backup is that when you plug in a mobile device or removable drive to your Mac, it'll ask if you want to back up the contents automatically. This means you won't have to worry about forgetting to save those precious memories!
However, this automatic backup doesn't apply to local folders. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell the app to monitor those sources for changes. During our tests, we found that it didn't pick up new images added locally.
The good news is that when it comes to removable media storage units, the automatic backup feature worked perfectly! So if you're using USB drives or SD cards, you're covered.
You can also customize how you upload images in the Preferences window. You have the option to upload at full resolution or switch over to high-quality mode where the file sizes get optimized. Plus, if you've got RAW images, those can be uploaded too!
If you're eager to see what you've uploaded, just open your Google Photos account in any web browser you like. To make things easier, Google Photos Backup has quick links right there in the menu bar.
In conclusion, Google Photos Backup makes it super simple to upload image and video files straight into your Google Photos account. Just remember that the automatic backup doesn't work for local media sources!
