There are many types of screensavers, with many types of animated and 3D screensavers to amuse and entertain users. Green Waterfalls is an animated screensaver that displays a green rainforest landscape and a waterfall connected to a river, with a wide variety of sound effects, music and animals moving on the image.

Unlike some screensavers, Green Waterfalls is not a 3D or entirely virtual one. It is instead a real image of a waterfall, animated to look as if the water is moving. The image is relaxing to look at, yet the decision to add animals to the image only spoils it. Various two dimension, cartoonish animals fly about or swim in the water, their unrealistic style clashes with the realism of the waterfall. Some of the images are only basic pixel art and do not suit the image at all.

The animation quality of the waterfall itself is questionable, from a distance it looks fine, but, at a closer look, users will be able to see the imitation water clearly. The sound effects are also in many cases too loud, the standard settings border on obnoxious, with shouting animals and various other sounds.

Green Waterfalls does include a few extra settings that give it more use than just a reasonably animated screensaver. The application includes a clock that can be displayed wherever users want on the image. However, the clock is an analog clock face that is difficult to see from a distance. The option to add a digital clock instead would been a better option.

Users can adjust the animation speed, the flow of the water and the moving animals, as well as disabling the cartoon and pixel art additions. The different audio options can be adjusted, providing the option to disable most of the additions. Sadly, Green Waterfalls lacks any decent graphical options, there are no different resolution options, as well as no brightness and gamma slider.

Green Waterfalls is not a terrible screensaver, the lack of any cost is also a noted advantage. However, the very limited graphical options, the poor choice in additional animations and low quality of the waterfall mean that it might not be the best choice. Green Waterfalls will entertain for a while, but there are other screensavers out there that do significantly more, with better quality animations.
