GZDoom is a cool program that lets you play the classic Doom games and others based on the same engine right on your Mac. It’s super easy to use since it can detect different IWAD files, so you can pick which one you want to play.
If you're wondering how to install GZDoom, it’s pretty straightforward! Just drag the app to your Applications folder. Then, go into your Library folder, find the GZDoom user directory, and move your IWAD files there. This way, GZDoom knows what games you want to play!
The package comes with some handy extras like detailed documentation and a utility that helps launch GZDoom. You can even open up a new Finder window directly to your GZDoom user folder!
You’ll need to drop those .wad files for Doom engine games into the /Library/Application Support/GZDoom folder. When you launch the app, it scans this library for IWADs and shows them in its main window. You’ll see all your source .wad files listed there!
GZDoom also lets you add extra parameters. Just head over to where your source parameters are saved using Finder, and GZDoom will apply them as it loads up the game.
Once everything is set up, launching GZDoom will let you dive back into those classic titles like you're playing them on an old console! Plus, it has save game support so you can easily pick up where you left off.
GZDoom gives you a chance to relive the thrill of classic Doom shooter games from the comfort of your Mac. It uses OpenGL rendering for a smooth experience. Just remember that you'll have to download and find those IWADs yourself since GZDoom only runs .wad files.
