Even though GitHub's built-in notification management system is not too shabby, things can quickly take a turn for the worst when, for instance, you are dealing with tons of incoming notifications, from more than one account.
If this is one of your most annoying struggles, then chances are you might just find Hawk Eye to be a life saver. In just a few words, Hawk Eye is a cross-platform and Electron-based piece of software that allows you to thoroughly manage scores of notifications, from multiple accounts, within a distraction-free environment.
Deploying it on your computer is practically a walk in the park since it comes with a hands-off installer that, once launched, takes care of everything on its own, without requiring your intervention.
Upon first launching the app, you are prompted to log in using your official GitHub credentials and provide the proper authorizations. Subsequently, you are greeted by the app's stylish and very intuitive user interface.
The layout is well thought-out, with a left-sided toolbar that allows you to quickly switch between multiple accounts and a list-like panel that encompasses all the notifications and allows you to neatly filter them by subject, repository, and receiving reason.
Before we go even further, it is worth mentioning Hawk Eye allows you to choose from either the default, black-themed UI theme or another light one, more suitable for bright work environments. In terms of workflow, there's really not much to be said, except the fact that the app allows you to check off single notifications from the list of mark all of them as read.
While we are on the subject of customization, we should point out that the application offers you a surprising amount of behavior options. For example, from the Settings section, you can set the update frequency values, and you can ask the app to play all sorts of useful sounds for various actions.
What is more, you can change what happens when you double-click the notifications, they can be either opened by your computer's default web browser or simply have their link address copied to the clipboard. If you plan on adding more than one GitHub account, this is also possible from the Settings section.
Considering everything that has been said, Hawk Eye is a modern and stylish app that offers you a novice-accessible way to manage multiple GitHub notifications as efficiently as possible.
With support for multiple accounts, intuitive tools for reading and filtering notifications, as well as a light set of highly useful customization options, Hawk Eye has all the right ingredients for becoming one of the most popular productivity-enhancing tools for GitHub users.
