One popular method for constructing augers involves cutting annular-shaped pieces from flat stock, slitting them along a radius, stretching them out, and welding them to a circular shaft. When creating an auger with a desired diameter 'D', it is crucial to ensure that the outer diameter of the annulus is greater than 'D'. This is due to the shrinking effect that occurs when the piece is stretched to form one turn of the screw. Similar considerations apply to the inner diameter of the annulus, which must be larger than the diameter of the shaft.
The tool accounts for such adjustments based on the pitch of the auger. It ensures that the outer circumference of the annulus matches the distance measured along the edge of the flight during one revolution, taking into consideration the pitch of the auger.
