Interceptty is a nifty program that sits between a real or fake serial port and an application, logging everything that flows through it. Think of it as your go-to tool for keeping an eye on what's happening with your serial port. Plus, it can work as a logging serial-to-Ethernet client or server!
Requirements:
If you’re ready to jump in, here’s how to install:
# ./configure
# make
# make install
This latest version has some important fixes for systems running as root with /dev/ptmx! Earlier versions had issues messing up permissions on /dev/ptmx on some systems—definitely not fun!
We’ve also added features that are super handy when running as root: you can now set permissions on pty and even chroot or switch UID/GID after opening devices.
If you've got permissions set on the pty, we created a process to keep an eye on interceptty. If it finishes unexpectedly, it’ll fix up those permissions automatically! This means even if interceptty crashes, you can reset the pty owner without any hassle—even if privileges have dropped.
