If you want to keep an eye on the Internet traffic going in and out of the network, then you need a special app that was built for this type of tasks. Interface Traffic Indicator is a nice tool that was designed to help you monitor your network.

The program has a simple interface and a clean layout, making it easy to handle by most users.

Basically, the program requests In and Out octet data (MIB2) from SNMP-capable (Simple Network Management Protocol) network interface.

Thus, this tool may be used even in a professional network environment to monitor selected network interfaces (even backplane ports if the device provides the information). Alternatively, it can monitor the home network or the cable, modem or ISDN connection to the Internet.

The app can display three types of graphics, namely the In and Out traffic in separate lines or combine, or only the utilization.

You have to enter the IP address and SNMP read community into the fields and click the “First Contact” button on the interface to start the process. The program then retrieves all interface information on the devices and, if it is successful, it enables the Start Polling button. The polling interval can be set for time values between 3 seconds and growing gradually to 300 seconds.

Interface Traffic Indicator is a nice tool that can be useful to have installed on the computer. Beginner users might find the program difficult to handle at first due to its nature.
