Description
Interlinear Text Editor
Interlinear Text Editor or ITE is a super handy tool for linguists. It makes it easy to enter transcriptions and interlinear glosses, especially when annotating recorded sounds. If you work with languages, this tool can be a real game-changer!
Easy Annotation at Four Levels
ITE lets you edit annotations on four levels: the text itself, the sentence (or utterance), the word, and even the morpheme. This means you can get really detailed in your analysis.
Organized Presentation
The cool part? Elements from lower levels like words and morphemes are shown sentence by sentence in interlinear format. The gloss fields line up right under the transcription fields, so it’s easy to follow along!
Lexicon Building Made Simple
As you gloss text, ITE builds up a lexicon for you. It adds new transcribed elements along with their glosses or updates existing ones. This saves time and makes sure everything stays organized.
Smart Gloss Suggestions
The software also helps by suggesting glosses for elements that have popped up before in your text or in other texts you've worked on. This feature speeds up your workflow and helps keep things consistent.
Tools for Data Checking
You’ll find tools for concordancing and indexing words and morphemes right within ITE. These tools make checking your data and analyzing it much easier.
XML Data Format Flexibility
The data format used is XML, which is pretty standard these days. While there isn’t a strict DTD imposed, the default settings use the Lacito Archivage DTD. If you're more advanced, you can set this up to work with other DTDs too!
If you’re interested in trying out Interlinear Text Editor, check it out! It's designed to make your linguistic work smoother and more efficient.
