ip is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you check out the IP address of the workstation that you are currently running using simple actions. It runs on all Windows platforms out there and can be opened via the command-prompt console.

You can bypass the installation process and run the tool directly on your system. Portability comes with some advantages to your system. The utility doesn’t store entries in your Windows registry and can be run without administrative privileges.

You may copy it on any USB flash drive or other portable devices and take it with you. Uninstalling it means deleting the file that you have grabbed from the Internet.

The application can be controlled only via the command-line console, so it doesn’t come with support for a dedicated GUI. Although working with the command-line and writing parameters may scare off less experienced users, this is really not the case with ip.

You only need to run the utility and it automatically displays the detected IP addresses in the command-prompt console. On the downside, there’s no support for saving and printing options, so you are allowed only to scan your network and check out the results.

All things considered, ip delivers a simplistic software solution for helping you check your current IP address especially if it changes a lot. On the downside, it hasn’t been updated for some time, so it’s possible to experience errors and compatibility issues on newer operating systems.

It does not bring anything new to the table, lacking support for advanced features that could help you set up sound and email alerts when the IP address is altered.
