J Text Editor

Developed in Java, J Text Editor is a word processing application that facilitates a simple working environment for creating, editing, opening and saving plain text documents.

It features just a couple of customization properties that make it clear to operate, especially by users less familiarized with text editors.

The interface consists of one window with a yellow background and several buttons displayed on the upper and lower bar. You can type or write text, open plain text documents via the file browser, or change the color of the top and bottom bar.

Moreover, it's possible to create new documents from scratch, overwrite the original file with the modifications or create a new one by establishing the output folder and file name, as well as look up text by resorting to a standard search function with no advanced filters.

The program's wrapped in an executable .jar file that you can copy to the hard drive or external storage device to seamlessly launch J Text Editor on any computer running Java Runtime Environment. It doesn't have any other software requirements, add new entries to the system registry, or generate folders or files on the computer without letting you know about it. It's only necessary to delete its file for uninstallation.

Unfortunately, J Text Editor's functionality ends here. It doesn't even have as many options as Windows Notepad, which is widely considered the baseline for text editors. For example, it doesn't support word wrapping, making it difficult to read large amounts of text by constantly moving the horizontal scrollbar.

On top of that, it lacks some standard text formatting settings, such as selecting a font, increasing or decreasing the font size, or applying italic, underline or bold effects. CPU and RAM usage was low in our tests, though.
