Although your mobile phone is capable of storing a high amount of info regarding contact details, it doesn’t mean doing so on a computer isn’t useful. Working in an office environment can make this a necessity, and there are various applications to use in this regard. As such, JAddressBook comes with just the right means.

Before you can even go through the setup process, it’s a good idea to make sure that your computer is fitted with Java Runtime Environment. On the other hand, this means that you don’t necessarily have to use it on a Windows operating system, since Java is more or less platform-independent.

It doesn’t come with any preset examples to quickly get you up and running, but the design is clean, and intuitive. Adding new entries mostly requires filling up a few details, such as the name and address. There are three additional fields you can use to fill up with any data you consider useful.

All entries you add are displayed on a list in the window. A side panel makes it easy to filter entries according to initial characters, but there’s also the possibility to have them all displayed. To your advantage, you can use the built-in find tool to quickly jump to an item of interest based on different requirement fields.

The visual design can feel a little rough around the edges, but the application does offer the possibility to slightly tweak it by changing font parameters. You have the option to save the entire database, as well as to export under different file formats, such as XML, CSV, and a few more.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that JAddressBook feels a little rough around the edges overall, and can take a bit of accommodation time due to it’s rough design. Although adding and editing entries requires little effort, it’s not quite a comfortable choice in terms of storing and identifying contacts in the nick of time.
