There are plenty of online and desktop applications that allow you to download videos from YouTube and other hosting websites, and one of the most popular options is youtube-dl. However, since not all users like using the command console, a GUI can come in very handy.

JAYG, or Just Another Youtube-dl GUI, is a very simple application that lets you access some of the powerful features offered by youtube-dl from an intuitive user interface. It isn’t particularly versatile, but it is very easy to use.

Despite not offering any advanced features, JAYG has one major advantage – it is remarkably easy to use, so even complete novices can rely on it for downloading content from YouTube and other websites.

Essentially, all you need to do is paste the video URL in the link field and specify whether the video or audio should be downloaded. For the latter, you can also select from the three available audio formats.

If you’re familiar with youtube-dl, you know that the program comes with an extensive array of features, allowing you to customize a wide range of parameters when downloading content.

In JAYG’s case, however, the only customizable setting is the audio format. Even the output path cannot be changed, and it does not seem to be possible to save high-resolution videos (over 720p).

We understand the developer’s intention, which is to provide users with a youtube-dl GUI and alternative that is accessible to all. JAYG is certainly intuitive, as it only takes a couple of mouse clicks to save videos or music locally.

However, it would be great if a few more customization options were available, even if they were to be locked behind an advanced mode, as they would make the software a lot more versatile.
