Computers evolved greatly over the years, but some basic operations are still a great necessity. Text is an important operation of computer use, and Windows provides a couple of editors to use by default. Needless to say that you can also grab third-party alternatives from the web, and Jotter is just one suitable example.
Before you can enjoy all the application has to offer, you need to make sure that your computer is fitted with .NET Framework, because it’s a mandatory requirement for functionality. Just to have it launched from any Explorer location, a cool trick is to assign a hotkey command to the program’s shortcut from the Properties panel.
The application might not really strike you as appealing on start, mostly because the editing space is pretty compact. However, stretching the window borders might enlarge the window, but it only reveals empty space, making the program look and feel like in early stages of development.
As far as editing is concerned, everything is narrowed down to simple text. There are absolutely no customization options in terms of font, but the space can be used to easily paste strings of interest, just like a clipboard which provides visual feedback. Sadly, the application discards everything on exit.
There are no save or load options, so you either need to manually write strings, or paste from clipboard. Overall, the application is mostly suitable for temporary strings. In this regard, an advantage is that you can run multiple instances of the program to have multiple pads at your disposal. A scroll bar appears if text is larger than the visual range.
All things considered, we can state that Jotter comes with good intentions, but it’s packed with a pretty poor variety of features, making it feel like in early stages of development. The lack of save and load options is frustrating, but it might come in handy for storing temporary strings of text, especially because multiple instances can be active at a time.
