What is jstest-gtk FOR LINUX?

jstest-gtk

jstest-gtk is a super handy joystick tester that runs on GTK+. It gives you a clear list of joysticks connected to your system. Plus, it shows you which buttons and axes are being pressed. You can even remap those buttons and axes if you need to, and calibrate your joystick for better performance.

Why Use jstest-gtk?

Even if your joystick seems to be working fine, it's worth giving jstest-gtk a try. Calibration can help get rid of those annoying large deadzones that many joysticks have by default. This can really make a difference in some games where precision is key!

Getting Started with jstest-gtk

Once you've compiled the software, starting jstest-gtk is easy! Just type:

$ ./jstest-gtk

If you know the device you want to test with, just enter:

$ ./jstest-gtk /dev/input/js0

Main Window Features

The main window will show all the joysticks currently available. If you double-click on one, it opens up the Test dialog where you can check out the buttons and axes on your joystick.

Mapping Your Joystick

You'll also find a mapping dialog that lets you reorder buttons and axes. This is super useful when a game expects the dpad on certain axes but your controller has them elsewhere—like axis 4 and 5 on a dual analog stick gamepad.

Calibrating Your Joystick

The calibration dialog allows for some in-depth tweaks on how raw axis values are mapped to your joystick. Want to invert an axis? Disable one? Or remove its deadzone for finer control? You got it! Many joysticks come with bigger deadzones than necessary, which can limit your control over small movements.

If you're ready to enhance your gaming experience with better joystick control, download jstest-gtk now!
