Karaoke Lyrics Editor is a cool program that lets you edit and sync lyrics with karaoke songs in different formats. Unlike regular lyrics you find everywhere, karaoke lyrics need special timing marks. These marks help the player know when to show each line and how to highlight the words. Plus, if you're using the UltraStar format, you'll also need to specify pitch so the player knows how each note should be sung.
What sets Karaoke Lyrics Editor apart from other lyrics editors for Linux is that it’s self-sufficient! You don’t need KDE or any external players to make it work. This app was specifically designed for Linux users and is built using the Qt toolkit.
The best part? Karaoke Lyrics Editor is completely free! It’s released under the GNU General Public License version 3, so anyone can use it without any cost.
After you download it, unpack the files and run a few commands: first type "qmake", then follow up with "make" and finally "make install". Easy peasy!
This application relies on some packages like the Qt development package along with gcc and make. Make sure these are installed first! If you can't find “qmake”, that means you might not have the Qt development package set up yet. Depending on your distribution, look for names like "qt-devel", "qt4-devel", or something similar.
If you see errors about missing Phonon headers, it could mean your Qt version is older than 4.5 or it was built without Phonon support. You shouldn't encounter any errors or warnings during installation.
Once you've installed the application, just type "karlyriceditor" in your command line or find it in your menu to start editing those karaoke lyrics!
