If you're the sort of user curious about everything that's going on when it comes to your computer, you might be interested in a software utility that can keep track of your key presses and mouse clicks, reporting back statistics.
Key InFormer is a portable app that can be launched as soon as you double-click the downloaded executable file. It's not a keylogger in the true sense of the word because it cannot be used for malicious intent, like spying on someone using your computer. This is because the tool cannot run silently and doesn't provide in-depth information about key and mouse events, unlike other specialized utilities.
The interface consists of a single window that creates a new line of text every time a key is pressed or mouse button is clicked. By default, it checks for these events every second but you can change the number of milliseconds as well as disable this when you want to take a look at the statistics (gets set to -1 millisecond on deactivation).
Statistics include the virtual key pressed, scan code, time elapsed since the previous event, along with the name of the window affected by the event. The last part also shows the total events (update counter). This window stays on top of other applications by default but this option can be changed.
Settings with the update timer and always-on-top status are not automatically saved by Key InFormer when quitting to the desktop but you can ask the program to do this. When this happens, it creates a settings configuration (.ini) file in the same directory as the executable.
All aspects considered, Key InFormer delivers basic information about the keys pressed and mouse buttons clicked on your computer.
