Although there are many services like LastPass that can remember, save and autofill your passwords in an online environment, there are also solutions offline, in case you don't trust the cloud and fear your account can be hacked and your keys stolen.
Made with the Electron framework, Keyfant Offline Password Manager offers a simple and elegant solution for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android and iOS. It provides an intuitive GUI for creating numerous entries with descriptions, usernames and passwords, which can also be tagged to be able to quickly locate info later on.
The program gets installed seamlessly and asks you to set a master password a startup, which will be requested every time you want to access Keyfant. In the following step, you should create tags before adding new entries to the list.
Creating a new entry is as simple as it gets: set a description (it can also be a URL, for example), login username and password. Multiple tags can be assigned to the same entry if it falls into different categories.
After populating the manager with many entries, they can be sorted by description, login or date (ascending or descending) as well as filtered by tags. As far as program settings are concerned, you can switch the GUI from English to German or change the master password.
Another aspect worth mentioning is that Keyfant automatically logs out (hides the keys and asks you for the master password again) when it's idle (for example, if you minimize it to the taskbar for a while and attend to other applications). There's also a button next to the tags section for manually logging out of the too.
This is great when other persons have access to your PC, so they will not be able to view your private information. Unfortunately, there is no way to recover the master password if you forget it, so you have to be extra careful.
Taking everything into account, Keyfant Offline Password Manager may not be rich in features but facilitates a clear-cut interface and intuitive options for organizing passwords in an offline environment.
