Keylight Control is becoming a go-to app for Linux users who want to control their Elgato Key Lights. These lights are super popular with streamers because they offer great coverage and flexibility. The best part? You can control them wirelessly!
So, Elgato has this official app called Elgato Control Center, but here's the catch: it only works on Windows and macOS, plus Android and iOS. This leaves out a huge chunk of the community—Linux users!
No worries though! Developer Justin Forlenza stepped in to save the day with his awesome app, Keylight Control. This little gem is lightweight but packs a punch when it comes to features specifically designed for Linux.
The cool thing about Keylight Control is that you can use it on almost any Linux distribution, and it comes as an AppImage file. This makes installation easy!
With Keylight Control, you can manage your Elgato Key Lights individually. Want to turn them on or off? Check. Need to adjust brightness or color temperature? You got it!
Interestingly, many users say that this app actually works better on Linux than the official client does on Windows. Some have reported issues with connection drops using the official software.
This app might be a bit niche since Linux doesn't have as big of a market share compared to Windows, but it's open-source and free, so it really gets the job done!
While Keylight Control does integrate with your status bar or system tray, it's not super functional just yet. You still have to run the app in windowed mode for now. The official clients do handle tray integration much better.
Also, we're not too sure if Keylight Control supports newer products like the Elgato Light Strip or Key Light Mini at this point.
Despite some limitations, Keylight Control is a handy tool, allowing Linux users to easily manage their Elgato Key Lights right from their desktops.
