Access to various locations online is done through various digital keys. In lack of proper software, managing them can sometimes be for an IT professional a bit problematic because such tools have to meet certain security standards in order to be fit for the job.
KeyMan has been created specifically for the purpose of managing keys, certificates and certificate revocation lists.
The interface of the application is far from being complicated, with easy to understand options and menus being available at the top of the screen.
The functionality of the product includes not just preserving the credentials safely but also additional information such as the validity of the certificates or the processes associated with handling user and server certificates.
Importing from different certificate formats through certain protocols (LDAP/HTTPS) is supported and KeyMan can also be used to create self-signed certificates.
For safekeeping of this type of sensitive data as well as for secure accessing it KeyMan includes software-based cryptographic functions and it can also be used with hardware tokens.
However, for token support the developer provides more documentation in the “native-support” package included in the downloaded archive.
Among other features available in the application is compliance with PKCS standards (#7, #10, #11, #12) and integration with VeriSign and other certificate authorities.
KeyMan is not intended for the average user but for IT professionals that require a simple utility to manage certificates and keys. Although it is not as straightforward as other programs of the same feather it sports sufficient security measures to prevent unauthorized access to the data.
