LANtern is a handy tool for anyone working with Linux. It’s a frame and packet analyzer, which sounds technical but is super useful if you need to dig into network data. Written in C and released under the MIT license, it’s pretty flexible!
So, what can LANtern actually do? It supports various types of network traffic like ethernet frames, ARP, MPLS, RARP, and IPv4. This includes a bunch of protocols like AH, ESP, GRE, ICMP, IGMP, TCP, IPComp, UDP, UDP-Lite, and even IP-in-IP encapsulation! That’s quite a list!
The developer has plans to create a BSD version soon. That means more people will be able to use it on different systems!
If you find that LANtern isn’t quite fitting your needs or if you have ideas for improvements or new features—don’t hold back! Although it’s not under the GPL license (so no pressure to share your changes), the creator would love to hear about any enhancements you come up with.
If you're ready to give LANtern a try or just want to learn more about it, check out the link! It's totally worth exploring if you're into networking tools.
